Extremely low bass sound, independent of enclosure volume and woofer size
The lower limiting frequency of the reproducible frequency range of loudspeaker systems is mainly determined by the enclosure volume as well as the size of the membrane. Loudspeaker enclosures as large as typical wardrobes and large membranes are necessary in order to reproduce very low bass sound. Furthermore, cheap home cinema subwoofers radiate sound towards the floor, hence creating floor vibrations which then generate a fake impression of extra low bass sound. The reason for the lower limit of loudspeaker systems is its resonance frequency, under which common amplifiers cannot compensate the rapid drop in sensitivity towards lower frequencies, which is inherent to common loudspeakers.
However, the ABACUS amplifier in ABACUS subwoofers is different from common audio amplifiers. Due to its unique circuit design, it is completely independent of the load of both loudspeaker and cables. Furthermore, using equalizers, the sound pressure level drop below the resonance frequency can be compensated; suddenly, extremely low bass sound produced by a small and compact, closed box is possible.
At ABACUS, low bass sound always starts from 16 Hz and on. Furthermore, the bass sound is radiated directly into the room and not exciting the floor; hence a clear and tight bass sound is produced.
Membrane control at its best
The big advantage of the ABACUS amplifiers, being part of every ABACUS subwoofer, lies in the full control of the loudspeaker. The full negative feedback in ABACUS amplifiers – which is, in contrast to common audio amplifiers, always in phase with the input signal – prevents any movement of the membrane which is not part of the audio signal. In this way, ABACUS subwoofers produce a clear and transparent bass sound, at low as well as high levels.
The subwoofer with the musical sense
ABACUS subwoofers are capable of reproducing clear and tight low bass down to below the audible range, completing the “big audio picture”. At the same time it improves the dynamic, speech intelligibility and spatiality, leading to a higher authenticity of your music or movie sound. An even higher gain in authenticity is created if the ABACUS subwoofer is used in combination with DML panel loudspeakers, on-shelf loudspeakers, etc. And as part of a home cinema and multi-channel audio system, the ABACUS subwoofers produce an impressive amount of bass.
In general, the subwoofer itself should not be perceived as a separate sound source. Instead, the dynamic, speech intelligibility and spatiality of the audio signal should be improved; this is what makes the subwoofer worth its money.
