Active bass stands as alternative solution

Setting up a subwoofer correctly is hard work. In the perfect case it should work with the speaker together as one, not even beeing found by tracing the sound. Due to the properties of a hearing room this is almost impossible. Friends of self-powered loudspeakers know that sometimes using even two subwoofers can solve many problems, when placed near to the speakers.

Why not build the subwoofers directly into the speaker stands?

This is exactly what the ABS210 is. It provides a high pass filteres signal – with line driver output – for the top speaker and can also switch this one on and off. On the top of the cabinet there are small pits in the veneer, where the rubber feet of an APC24-23C or two of the feet of an A-Box 10 can be attached. Previous APC-version or even speakers of other brands can be placed there, too.

Setup effort is minimized.

The crossover frequency is fixed at 90Hz (18dB/Oct. Butterworth). Wavelengths in this range are much longer than the dimensions of the subwoofer/speaker-combination. This guaranties a trouble-free operation.

Repulsions are compensated

In the active bass stand ABS210 two 10” (25cm) woofers are working back to back. This leads to a cancellation of repulsions. So the cabinet stands still, even while the woofers performing long excursions. Almost no vibrations are transferred to the floor, which brings advantages when installing the subwoofers. Also the speaker attached to the top will be kept free of resonances.

Due to the special ABACUS amplifier technology, driving the woofers below their resonant frequency is possible. This brings benefits, because of the drivers working very smoothly in this frequency area. With the help of an equalizer the amplitude is boostet and the frequency response is linearized down to 16Hz.
